Lecturer’s murder case: housemaid arrested in Minna by police

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 14-year-old housemaid, Joy Afekafe, in connection with the murder of Associate Professor Funmilola Adefolalu from the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Afekafe, who had worked as the deceased’s housemaid for approximately three weeks, was discharged from her duties due to misconduct. Subsequently, she conspired with two male friends, Walex and Smart, to attack the professor at her home in Minna.

On October 28, 2023, the trio entered the victim’s residence, assaulted her, and stabbed her multiple times. They also stole her phone, laptop, and removed the battery from her vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. Efforts are underway to apprehend the other two suspects who are currently on the run.

Professor Adefolalu was discovered murdered in her home in Gbaiko Area of Minna after she failed to attend church, prompting her colleagues to check on her. This led to the grim discovery of her lifeless body, which was subsequently taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community and underscores the importance of swift and thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the public.
