Kenya’s Bernard sang triumphs at 2024 Lagos city marathon

Bernard Sang emerged victorious in the 42km race of the 2024 Lagos City Marathon, surpassing 80 elite marathoners. He secured the grand prize of $50,000 with a remarkable finish time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds. The second and third positions went to Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, earning $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.

Kebene Chala, a 25-year-old Ethiopian, claimed the top spot among women and will also receive $50,000. Both male and female winners earned spots in the marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Shehu Muazu emerged as the first Nigerian finisher, earning a N1 million cash prize. The race, starting at the National Stadium in Surulere and concluding at Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, featured elite athletes from various countries.

Notably, last year, the event attained a gold label by the world athletics body, just under eight years since its inception. This year’s results mark a significant achievement for Bernard Sang, who had secured third place in the 2023 Lagos City Marathon.
