Journalist regains Freedom after 138 days of political Persecution by Ogun Governor

Olamilekan Bashiru, publisher of Eaglesforesight has regained his freedom after spending 138 days in detention.

Justice Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Tuesday, struck out the case on the ground that the prosecution counsel had filed a notice of discontinuance of the case.

Olamilekan was first arrested on May 14th, 2022, by operatives of the Department of State Services on the order of the Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, allegedly for reposting a report critical of the Governor which was originally published by another platform, Peoples gazette.

Ogunwatch had earlier reported the appearance of the Journalist in court today.

When Ogunwatch reached out to the freed Journalist, he said that he would pursue the cause of a society where freedom of the press would be guaranteed.
