Husband arrested in connection to killing of 24-year-old wife

The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed the apprehension of two individuals, Adamu Ibrahim and Bukar Wadiya, in connection with the tragic killing of 24-year-old Fatima Alhaji-Bukar, a resident of Dikechiri, Bayan Gidan Dambe area in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Sani Kamilu, conveyed this information in a statement released to the press in Maiduguri.

According to Kamilu, the victim was married to Adamu Ibrahim, who is considered the main suspect in the case.

On October 18, 2023, Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, who identified himself as a staff member of a local bank, arrived at Gwange Division along with Bukar Wadiya, transporting his deceased wife and urgently seeking assistance from the police.

Adamu returned home from work around 5:00 p.m. only to discover his wife lying in a pool of her own blood.

Preliminary investigation suggests that prior to the incident, the couple had been embroiled in domestic disputes, primarily concerning an alleged extramarital affair by the husband within their shared residence.

The scene of the incident was found to be securely locked, with no signs of forced entry. A search yielded several items, including a short pestle, a bag, a rope, a bloodstained rug carpet, a knife, a Honda vehicle, and a pillow stained with mucus.

Kamilu stated that the husband is the sole possessor of the house key, as no evidence of forced entry was found. Both Adamu Ibrahim and Bukar Wadiya were apprehended as primary suspects, with discreet investigations underway for potential legal proceedings.
