Former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party expressed his thoughts on Monday after the Supreme Court upheld Bola Tinubu’s election as President in the February 2023 election.
Atiku, in his statement, remained confident that history would eventually vindicate his actions.
Addressing the press, Atiku stated, “At a critical juncture in my political journey, I consistently chose the path of truth, morality, and adherence to the rule of law. History will be the ultimate judge.”
He further elaborated, “When I ventured into politics, the primary objective was to oust the military regime and restore civilian governance in Nigeria.
This endeavor evolved into a defining struggle, and as one of its leaders, I became a target.
I faced a serious assassination attempt in which nine policemen guarding my home in Kaduna lost their lives. This incident forced me into a nine-month exile.”
Atiku also discussed his legal action against Tinubu regarding his academic credentials, emphasizing the broader significance of the case, saying, “It’s not just about me; it’s about our nation, Nigeria, and its future.
It pertains to the type of society we wish to leave for the next generation and the example we set for our children.
It is about upholding Nigeria’s reputation and the image of Nigerians in the eyes of the world. We presented evidence that Tinubu was not qualified to run for the presidential election due to the alleged forgery of his qualifying academic certificate.”
