The Third Mainland Bridge is set to be temporarily closed for repairs, according to an announcement by the Federal Government on Thursday. The closure, scheduled from Saturday, October 21, 2023, to Sunday, October 22, 2023, aims to address concerns raised by motorists regarding deteriorating sections of the 11.8km bridge.

This bridge, one of Nigeria’s busiest, connects Victoria Island to mainland Lagos, alongside the Eko Bridge and the Carter Bridge. Over recent years, it has undergone multiple repair efforts. Engr O. I. Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, emphasized the government’s commitment to a comprehensive restoration of the Third Mainland Bridge.

In the interim, palliative measures will be taken on the most critically affected areas along the Adeniji bound carriageway on Sunday, 22nd October, 2023, in preparation for the broader repair undertaking. Motorists are advised to follow diversion instructions and, if possible, use alternative routes during the palliative works, as the Adeniji bound section of the bridge will be inaccessible to traffic from Saturday, October 21, 2023, until Sunday, October 22, 2023, midnight.
