RSIEC Chairman Declares 22 APP Candidates Winners in Rivers LG Poll; Violence Disrupts Elections in Some Areas

Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, has declared 22 Action Peoples Party (APP) candidates winners in the October 5, 2024, local government elections.

Enebeli announced that the candidates secured a majority of valid votes in two-thirds of their wards across 22 LGAs. However, results for Etche LGA were withheld due to delayed collation.

Despite reports of violence in some areas, Enebeli praised the peaceful conduct of the elections. Meanwhile, gunmen attacked a ward in Elekahia, causing chaos.
