Wale Adedayo, the purportedly suspended Chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government Area in Ogun State, found himself in DSS custody on Friday.
This move comes in the wake of Adedayo’s purported suspension by local councillors, who accused him of mismanaging funds and poor governance. His suspension occurred shortly after he publicly alleged that Governor Dapo Abiodun was withholding federal funds due to local councils for the past two years.
Among the charges against Wale Adedayo is the alleged withdrawal of N4 million from the council’s account for a 2022 empowerment program, along with an expenditure of N2 million on Iṣẹṣe Day celebrations held on August 20, 2022.
According to a source within Adedayo’s family, the DSS had initially invited him for questioning but ultimately detained him upon his arrival, stating that they were not prepared to question him at that moment.
An anonymous eyewitness and sympathizer revealed, “The DSS had just turned us away from their Abeokuta office near the governor’s office. They mentioned that they weren’t ready to investigate the chairman yet, despite the governor’s recent visit to their premises, where he met with the chairman before leaving.”
