The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha psc, has assumed office at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran. In his maiden speech, Commissioner Mustapha expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Ogun State and pledged to address the prevailing security concerns and promote the state’s socio-economic and socio-political development.
Commissioner Mustapha acknowledged the confidence placed in him by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD NPM, and the Police Service Commission. He emphasized his determination to build upon the achievements of his predecessors and overcome all obstacles to enhance the safety of the state.
Having previously worked in Ogun State, Commissioner Mustapha stated that he is well acquainted with the security challenges facing the region. He identified key areas of focus, including combating cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and the menace of land grabbers. He also highlighted the need to address the dangerous activities of one-way drivers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a bold move towards fostering peace, Commissioner Mustapha extended an olive branch to repentant cultists, assuring them that they can renounce their membership and surrender their weapons without fear of harassment or intimidation. He urged them to report to the Ogun Police Command to express their readiness to abandon cult activities.
To bridge the trust deficit between the police and the public, Commissioner Mustapha outlined various strategies, including timely response to incidents, reorientation of officers and men, proactive policing, and eradication of extortion by stop-and-search policemen. He also announced the establishment of a dedicated hotline to address complaints against police misconduct and pledged to engage with members of the public regularly to enhance communication and collaboration.
Recognizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation, Commissioner Mustapha stressed the need to strengthen partnerships with sister agencies to ensure the safety and security of the people of Ogun State.
In his closing remarks, Commissioner Mustapha expressed his appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continued support of the Nigeria Police Force and his commitment to maintaining peace in Ogun State. He also commended the media for their exceptional work in reporting crimes and pledged to maintain a close relationship with journalists to keep the public informed about the achievements and breakthroughs of the Ogun State Police Command.
