Court halts CBN’s allocation release to Rivers government

Justice Abdulmalik ruled that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s receipt and disbursement of monthly allocations since January breached the Constitution, calling it an unacceptable aberration.

The judge emphasized that Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before a four-member Rivers House of Assembly was a direct violation of constitutional provisions. Justice Abdulmalik highlighted the governor’s actions as a serious breach of the 1999 Constitution.

As a result, the judge issued an order preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant General of the Federation, as well as Zenith Bank and Access Bank, from permitting Fubara further access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
