Community members discover decomposed body of newborn in Ogun village

Residents at Oyede Avenue Plaza in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, made a grim discovery on Sunday when they stumbled upon the decomposing body of a newborn in their neighborhood. According to a police source, 21-year-old Esther Ojuko, believed to be the mother, allegedly killed the baby by placing her in a sack and discarding her in a nearby compound.

The exact age of the deceased baby at the time of the incident remains unclear. The state police command suggested that Esther Ojuko might have been mentally unbalanced when the crime occurred.

The unsettling incident came to light when residents, prompted by a foul odor, began investigating its source. Eventually, a resident identified a sack emitting the unpleasant smell behind a nearby compound. Upon unraveling the sack, residents were met with shock as they discovered the tightly wrapped decomposing body of the newborn.

Following the discovery, a resident named Ogunmuyiwa reported the incident to the Sango-Ota Police Division. State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Esther Ojuko, the mother, is in custody for suspected murder.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The deceased baby has been taken to the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
