Bobrisky alleges paying N5 million upfront to SAN for a pardon

In a newly released voice note, controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, made a shocking claim that he paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in an attempt to secure a Federal Government pardon for money laundering charges. These charges had been brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky revealed that the SAN initially demanded N10 million for the pardon but said he was only able to come up with half of the requested amount because his accounts had been frozen by the EFCC as part of the investigation.

The details of this payment were shared in a video posted by popular social media influencer, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, on Monday, October 7, 2024. According to VDM, the call recording took place on May 16, 2024.

In the voice note, Bobrisky disclosed that his godfather played a crucial role in helping him come up with the N5 million, which was paid to the SAN as part of the negotiations to secure the pardon. However, despite his godfather’s support, Bobrisky could not request more funds as his godfather had already arranged alternative accommodations for him near the prison, away from public scrutiny.

Bobrisky also addressed widespread rumors that he was being held in prison. He admitted that although many believed he was serving time, he had been placed in a fully furnished apartment near the prison facility, thanks to his godfather’s intervention. “Truth be told, I won’t lie to you, you’re my person. I’m not in prison, but I’m around there,” Bobrisky admitted in the voice note. “They got me an apartment because of my godfather. My godfather was able to say, ‘Never, you will not smell that prison.’ Let the world think that, but you will never.”

Bobrisky further revealed that the arrangement was made through negotiations with the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who agreed to keep him in a nearby apartment, on the condition that he remained discreet. “As long as I’m not posting or saying anything, they allow me to stay close by and visit my family,” Bobrisky said. “Nobody needs to know.”

The cross-dresser explained that his legal team was working to secure a pardon that would allow him to leave the correctional system early. “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July, but if we get the amnesty, I could leave by the first week of next month,” he shared. According to Bobrisky, the SAN had already submitted the pardon request after receiving the N5 million payment.

Additionally, Bobrisky shed light on the reasoning behind his alternative living arrangement. He claimed that authorities were concerned about placing him in a male correctional facility due to the potential risks of harassment. Therefore, with the help of the Nigerian Correctional Service, a compromise was reached, allowing him to live nearby under certain conditions.

This revelation comes on the heels of an earlier claim by Bobrisky, where he alleged that EFCC operatives had demanded and received N15 million to drop the money laundering charges against him. Bobrisky also mentioned that his godfather, in conjunction with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than a prison cell.

He further claimed that renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana was involved in securing a presidential pardon on his behalf in exchange for a payment of ₦10 million, though it remains unclear if this has come to fruition.
