The state Fire and Rescue Service, in an official statement on Friday, provided details of the unfortunate incident. According to the agency’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ololade Agboola, the passengers were on a journey from Olorunsogo to Isawo when the boat capsized.

In a commendable response, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation. The operation was conducted with the assistance of locals familiar with the area, resulting in the successful rescue of four female adults, despite the challenging circumstances.

The statement explained, “The accident was reported at 8:16 pm on Thursday, prompting the deployment of the Search and Rescue Crew from the agency. The crew collaborated with locals who were familiar with the terrain. Despite the darkness, the search continued until late at night when it was suspended. Four of the six victims on board the capsized boat crossing from Olorunsogo to Isawo were rescued.”

The determined search and rescue efforts resumed in the early hours of Friday. Tragically, it concluded with the recovery of the bodies of the two young females, Misturat Okunbanjo and Azeezat Amoo, marking a somber end to the operation.

This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and awareness when navigating waterways.
