Atiku advocates opposition party merger to confront APC

In Abuja on Tuesday, Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), conveyed his concerns during a meeting with the national executive committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

Addressing the gathering, he stressed the crucial need to safeguard democracy and voiced apprehensions about the APC’s actions, warning against the country moving towards a one-party dictatorship. Atiku urged IPAC, under the leadership of Yabagi Sani, to unite opposition parties and build a robust front against this perceived threat.

Expressing discontent with INEC’s handling of elections, Atiku criticized the electoral process, citing discrepancies in voter numbers. He called upon the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional and electoral reforms, particularly advocating for electronic voting reforms to enhance transparency in elections and protect the democratic process.

Atiku affirmed his belief in democracy, acknowledging its imperfections but emphasizing its status as the best form of government. He expressed his commitment to collaborating with others to preserve democracy in Nigeria.

The visit was facilitated by IPAC’s National President, Yabagi Sani, leading the delegation to meet with Atiku.
