Arsenal’s unbeaten streak broken by controversial Newcastle victory

Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end as Anthony Gordon’s goal, shrouded in controversy, secured a 1-0 victory for Newcastle. The match was marred by contentious moments, including a potential foul by Joelinton and a disputed ball-out decision.

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes narrowly escaped red cards. This loss was a painful setback for Arsenal, following their League Cup exit at the hands of West Ham. They now sit in third place, three points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Newcastle celebrated their memorable week with this victory, having previously eliminated Manchester United from the League Cup. The match saw intense but often scrappy play, with both teams failing to find the net in the first half. Arsenal’s frustration boiled over as Havertz’s reckless challenge went unpunished, and Guimaraes’ actions added to the tension.

In the 64th minute, a controversial goal by Gordon gave Newcastle the lead, leaving Arsenal protesting to no avail. Despite dominating possession, Arsenal couldn’t find an equalizer, marking their first defeat of the season.
