After Police launch investigation, MC Oluomo says he was misunderstood

Popular All Progressives Congress supporter and chairman of Lagos State Park Management Committee, Alh Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo has spoken after Ogunwatch reported that he made comments that stoked ethnic and electoral violence and the Lagos police also mentioned that they have launched investigations into the comments.

In a video in which he released on Friday on his official Instagram page, Oluomo said that he the media misunderstood the comments he made on Thursday. The Park management chairman said his comments weren’t directed at an ethnic group or opposition voters.

“Iya Chukwudi is like my sister, she is the one I was speaking to that if you know you are not voting for APC, sit at home, next I saw it on social media, they saying MC MC,” He said.

“please I am always on peace and if you look at Lagos state, there is peace there. Why will I say they should not come out to vote?” He added.

However, before that, Idowu Owohunwa, the commissioner of police for Lagos State, announced on Friday that an investigation had been opened into the alleged threat made by MC Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee, against the Igbo people living in lagos.

In an interview with TV Arise News regarding the Saturday governorship and state assembly elections preview, Owohunwa made this statement.

In a a viral video first posted by Ogunwatch , MC Oluomo urged Igbo residents of Lagos not to bother voting if they didn’t support the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

MC Oluomo added in the video, “Please inform them, we have pleaded with them. It is not a conflict if they choose not to support us. Inform them that if they don’t vote for us, Chukwudi’s mother will sit down at home. Do you comprehend? at home, take a seat.

In response to the threat, Lagos CP issued the following statement: “We condemn in the strongest terms any conduct, word, or action that might be construed as hate speech or that could be construed as escalating political tension, regardless of the mind that may be behind it. The video you cited specifically is currently the focus of an extensive inquiry.

Owohunwa added that law enforcement officers would not spare any lawbreakers and urged anyone inciting violence in the state to stop or face the full force of the law.

Naturally, we are using our access to cyber security to address that. Also, I can guarantee that no one is above the law. This nation has regulations. It is still the job and mandate of the Nigeria Police to look into anyone who attempts to incite hatred or create political tension, both of which have the potential to escalate into violent acts.

“This particular one you specified won’t exist by itself. It has previously been examined. The individuals responsible for it as well as anyone else who might want to take similar ill-advised indirect action would do well to exercise extreme caution and heed the strong warnings, said Owohunwa. “In the fullness of time, the full law will take its course, and it will not be different in this instance if established,” he continued.

In the second round of the 2023 elections, Nigerians will vote in governorship and house of assembly elections tomorrow.
