Abiodun pledges digital-driven development in Ogun State

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to using digital technology as a catalyst for the state’s progress. Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized the importance of identifying and nurturing technological talent among the youth, aiming to position Ogun as a hub of digital innovation on the global stage.

Abiodun made these remarks at the 2023 Ogun Tech Summit, themed ‘Disruptive Innovation: Digital Technology for Shaping the Future,’ held in Abeokuta. The two-day event drew technology experts, disruptors, creators, innovators, start-ups, and tech enthusiasts.

Governor Abiodun expressed the ambition of transforming Ogun into Nigeria’s Silicon Valley by offering substantial support to technology-driven professionals across the state. He also highlighted the administration’s intention to leverage information communication technology (ICT) initiatives to attract more investors to Ogun.

Represented by the Special Adviser on ICT, Dayo Abiodun, the governor revealed that Ogun State has embraced Information Technology through the establishment of Ogun TechHub, which has been instrumental in identifying top talent in ICT. The TechHub has evolved into a platform for harnessing youths’ IT expertise, facilitating initiatives like learners’ certificate numbers, digital curriculum, and digital infrastructure in the education sector.

Ayoola Olaniyi, the convener of the Tech Summit, noted that the event, initiated five years ago, aims to position Ogun State at the forefront of digital and technology talent recruitment, and to pave the way for progress in line with global best practices.
