Insult to education as Ogun LG chairman builds shopping complex on school compound

The Executive Chairman of Ado- Odo/ Ota Local G, Musa Sheriff also know as Sam20, has began the construction of a market plaza within a supposed educational environment.

OgunWatch gathered that the L.G chairman had plan to change the face of the serene academic environment of Nawair-Ud-Deen Primary School located in Atan-Ota, Ogun State into a market place in the name of generating revenue.

On investigation, it was discovered that the school lacks a library, good toilet and many other learning materials to foster learning in comfortability, hence the funds used in the construction of 20 shops could have been used to lift the infrastructural deficit facing the school.

OgunWatch also observed that in an attempt to build the shops, the pipe-borne water erected in the school premises which is the only legacy of Hon. Nurudeen Aina the former OGHA member in Atan Ward was uprooted without replacement, leaving the Ex-OGHA member with no legacy in Atan Ward.

According to studies, a school setting should be calm and quiet to promote easy absorption; therefore, the presence of these establishments on school grounds indicates that individuals would be conducting everyday business there, contributing to noise pollution and distracting the students.

Some residents have since expressed shock over the sudden development and termed the plot as reckless and a show of cluelessness in government.

A source, Jinad Hammed, explained that the development is onlyย  a means to make educational system in the local government worst.

โ€œ Itโ€™s strange that SAM20 has decided to make life difficult for innocent pupils rather than joining the platform of great administrators who contribute to education by giving scholarship, better welfare programs and landmark projects he has decided to build over 20shops in the school premises.

โ€œAs a father, I’m certainly sure Sam20 cannot allow his children to learn in a primary school environment with marketing complex. What do we call a school and supposed learning environment with 20shops in her premises?

โ€œBuilding of shopping complex in a school premises doesnโ€™t only contradict the purpose of the government property but serious distraction thatโ€™s capable of leading to the children academic destruction.

A resident in the community who identified herself as Efe Pat noted that schools are place of learning not a place for business and both cannot work simultaneously.

โ€œSchools are place for learning and not business, this will only end up distracting them and also expose them to thugs, smokers and all kind of ill things associated with a market place.

โ€œSo the state government should not allow suchโ€.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, in an interview with OgunWatch maintained that there is going to be a demolition of the shops if built, adding that it is an illegal encroachment.

โ€œ It is illegal and we have told them, they have no right and approval to do that.

โ€œI am sure that if anything is done it will be demolished because even for buildings they need to get approval first from the physical planning and am  sure nobody would have given them that approval so it is an illegal encroachment.
