8 Manchester United players whose contract will expire in 2024

Manchester United is looking at some significant changes in their squad by June 2024, with the potential departure of eight players.

The team’s current season hasn’t been stellar, sitting at sixth in the Premier League and facing challenges in the Champions League.

The impending takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, set to manage football operations with a 25% purchase in the club, adds an air of uncertainty to the future of several players.

Let’s delve into the specific situations of each player:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (26)

United has the option to extend Wan-Bissaka’s contract by a further 12 months.

His defensive skills and the substantial £50 million invested in his acquisition from Crystal Palace make a contract extension likely.

    Victor Lindelof (30 in July)

United also has the option to extend Lindelof’s contract by another year.

Although not the primary center-back, the coach values Lindelof, evident in his consistent appearances this season.

      Sofyan Amrabat (27)

Amrabat, signed on loan from Fiorentina for £8.6 million, hasn’t made a significant impact.

His performances since joining need improvement to justify a permanent deal valued at £17.1 million.

        Sergio Reguilon (26)

Reguilon, on loan from Tottenham, might find himself surplus to requirements.

With other left-backs returning from injuries, his time at United could be limited.

          Hannibal Mejbri (20)

Despite promising talent, Mejbri hasn’t seen much playtime under Erik ten Hag.

United has the option to extend his contract by 12 months, but his lack of opportunities might lead him to consider a transfer.

          Anthony Martial (28)

Martial’s playing time has been limited, and he has only contributed one goal this season.

While United can extend his contract by 12 months, his future at Old Trafford appears uncertain, suggesting a potential fresh start.

            Jonny Evans (36):

Evans made a surprising return to United on deadline day, making five Premier League starts.

His performance will likely determine whether he secures another 12-month deal at 36.

Tom Heaton (almost 38 in April)

Heaton, a veteran goalkeeper, is likely to receive another contract, given his experience.

However, he might consider leaving for a new challenge if he seeks regular playing time in the twilight of his career.

The intricacies of these contract negotiations will undoubtedly shape the future composition of Manchester United’s squad, particularly amid this period of anticipated transition and new leadership.
