5 things to know about Frank Mba, new Ogun State Commissioner of Police

On February 7, 2023, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, ordered and deployed new commissioners of police to Lagos, Ogun, Adamawa, Taraba, and Enugu states.

In the posting, the former force spokesman, Frank Mba was deployed to Ogun State as the new Commissioner of Police. Also, Idowu Owohunwa was deployed to succeed Abiodun Alabi as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos.

The news of CP Frank Emeka Mba’s appointment as the state’s Commissioner of Police seems to be thrilling Ogun State residents, due to his perceived reputation. Mba is regarded as a versatile police officer because he has worked in multiple police units and departments across the country.

Curious about his origin, educational background, achievements and his sojourn in the force, here are five things to know about him:

1) He is from Udenu Local Government Area in Enugu State. 

2) After his basic schooling, he proceeded to the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano where he had his initial police training, and he graduated from the academy as the best cadet inspector in academics in 1993.

3) As aforementioned, Mba holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. Also, he got his Master’s degree in law at the University of Dundee, Scotland.

His other educational achievements are:

– He is a National and International Security certificate holder from Harvard University, USA.

– He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy, Quantico, USA.

4) He has served in the Nigerian Police Force since 1993, when he graduated as a cadet inspector, as previously indicated. In addition, he held the position of Force Public Relations Officer three times, serving under three successive Inspectors General of Police. He has also served as the Area Commander in the Ajah Area Command in Lagos State, and Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba.
