2024 Olympic qualifier: Super falcons dominate Ethiopia with a 4-0 victory

The Super Falcons of Nigeria secured their spot in the 2024 Women’s Football Olympic Games with a dominant 4-0 victory over Ethiopia, achieving a 5-1 aggregate score.

The journey began with Atletico Madrid star Rasheedat Ajibade’s remarkable long-range strike, which salvaged a 1-1 draw for Nigeria in the first leg of the 2024 Olympic qualifier in Ethiopia the previous Wednesday.

Nigeria took the lead late in the first half as striker Uchenna Kanu calmly slotted the ball past the Ethiopian goalkeeper, giving Nigeria the lead.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade continued her impressive goal-scoring streak. The Atletico Madrid Femeni forward scored from close range on a pass from Asisat Oshoala, extending the Falcons’ lead to 2-0.

Asisat Oshoala, the Barcelona Femeni forward, contributed Nigeria’s third goal with a brilliant header from Uchenna Kanu’s cross in the 68th minute.

Just four minutes later, Ajibade netted her second goal of the game. After earlier setting up Oshoala with a pass, she benefited from Oshoala’s skillful play on the right flank to secure her second goal.

Nigeria has advanced to the third qualifying round and will await the winner between Uganda and Cameroon. The third round of qualifying matches is scheduled to take place between February 9 and 28, 2024.
