Shettima forms panel for human capital development

Vice President Kashim Shettima has greenlit the formation of a multi-sectoral committee to drive the Federal Governmentโ€™s Human Capital Development (HCD) program. The team, composed of federal and state governments, donors, and partners, will convene every two weeks to review progress.

The HCD program focuses on Health and Nutrition, Labour Force Participation, and Education, addressing key areas such as under-five mortality rate, malnutrition, and quality of learning. Shettima emphasized the importance of investing in human capital for global competitiveness and adaptability.

The meeting included prominent figures like Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu, with commitments to support the HCD initiatives. The World Bank and various partners pledged assistance, marking a collective effort to fast-track human capital development across government levels.

This meeting follows the 2018 launch of the HCD program by the National Economic Council, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, with a Steering Committee overseeing its implementation.
