LASEMA chief: 14 athletes struggle in Lagos women marathon

During the 2023 Lagos Women’s Marathon on Sunday, 14 athletes collapsed and were revived on Lagos Island. The marathon, held from 7 a.m. to midday, saw LASEMA’s Response Team and paramedics addressing issues such as dehydration, hypoglycemia, muscle pulls, and fatigue.

Two athletes experienced semi-loss of consciousness. All affected individuals received first aid, and those with semi-loss of consciousness were resuscitated and taken to the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos Island. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, emphasized the importance of collaboration for successful emergency response in evaluating the event’s overall success.
