In a surprising turn of events, second-year students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have taken legal action against the state’s Governor, Seyi Makinde, and other key officials for the controversial relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the newly established Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources at the Iseyin Campus in the Iseyin Local Government Area.

The lawsuit, marked HOG/34/2023, was filed at an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso and involves four LAUTECH students, Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Edet, Ezekiel Ogunmola, and Aderemi Olude, who act as plaintiffs, representing not only themselves but also other students and parents of 200 Level students of the affected faculty.

The decision to relocate the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has raised significant concerns among the student body, and this legal action is seen as a direct response to address those concerns.

While a date for the hearing of the case has not yet been scheduled, the court papers, dated Monday, October 30, have identified additional defendants in the lawsuit, including the state’s Commissioner for Education, the acting Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, and the Provost of the Iseyin campus.

The primary objective of the lawsuit is to secure a court order that would prevent the Governor and his representatives from proceeding with the planned relocation of the faculty.
