In a star-studded event, Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, claimed victory at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), held on Sunday, November 5, at the Paris Nord Villepinte, France. Alongside Rema, globally renowned acts like Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift also celebrated wins at the prestigious awards ceremony.

Rema’s triumph was particularly noteworthy as he secured the award for the newly-introduced “Best Afrobeats” category, outshining heavyweight Afrobeats artists like David Adeleke (Davido) and Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy). The other nominees in this category included Asake, Aya Nakamura, and Ayra Starr.
