BREAKING: Ibadan airport reopens after Tinubu minister’s jet crash-landing

Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, has returned to full operations after a private jet accident temporarily halted flight activities. Following a crash-landing near the runway involving a plane carrying the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and his entourage, the Bola Tinubu-led government had suspended flight operations at the airport. 

However, according to a source at the airport, flight activities resumed on Sunday, with two flights departing for Abuja. The incident, which took place on a Friday, involved a private aircraft with registration number 5N-AMM. Fortunately, all passengers and the three-member crew were successfully rescued from the damaged aircraft.

A preliminary report on the incident indicated that the aircraft had skidded off the runway into a nearby bush. The airportโ€™s control tower lost communication with the aircraft upon landing, leading to an immediate response from airport officials.

Various teams, including ARFFS, AVSEC, and airport safety personnel, rushed to the scene. Despite efforts to gather information from the pilot, the details remained elusive. As of the reportโ€™s filing, the aircraft remained in the bush near runway 22, with security personnel from multiple agencies on standby.

Officials confirmed that, following a brief emergency meeting, there were no casualties in the incident, and the runway lighting system was operational at the time of the incident. The exact cause of the crash-landing remained undetermined at that point, and further investigations were underway to ascertain the reasons behind the incident.
