OGHA passes resolution to lift ban on NURTW

The Ogun State House of Assembly passed a resolution on Thursday asking the State Government to abolish the previous prohibition on all operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.

The resolution was passed after a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by the Minority Leader, Adeleye Lukman, and unanimously approved by the House as a whole. 

The passage came shortly after the presentation of the Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, Oludaisi Elemide, who described the incident that led to the prohibition by the Ninth Legislature, claiming that members of the Union have maintained peace and orderliness since then.

In his response, Speaker Oluomo stated that the lifting of the prohibition became necessary as a result of the Union members’ peaceful behaviour, as well as their knowledge of the rule of law in the promotion of a peaceful atmosphere and societal orderliness.

In another development, the assembly has received a list containing the names of additional three Commissioner Nominees from the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, with an invitation to them to appear before the State lawmakers for screening at the Assembly Complex on Monday, 9th October, 2023 at 2.00pm prompt.

The announcement was made by  the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo made  shortly after reading the Governor’s correspondence dated 3rd October, 2023.

According to the Speaker, the Governor’s nominees included TPL Olatunji Odunlami, Wasiu Isiaka and Funmi Efuwape, who are to appear before the State lawmakers on Monday, 9th, October, 2023 with thirty copies of their curriculum vitae expected to have been submitted latest by 10:00am on Monday.
