The Ogun gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Ogun in the 2023 elections, Tony Ojeshina has criticised the state government over the local government allocation fund.

In a press release made available to OgunWatch, Ojeshina noted that while people were hoping for crisis management and good advice to win out, security agents storming the Ijebu East local government’s headquarters in an effort to detain and remove the chairman Wale Adedayo was a despicable way to manipulate the councillors in the local government.

OgunWatch had reported that Wale Adedayo, the chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government, submitted a letter on Monday alleging that the governor mismanaged the statutory allocation funds, resulting in zero revenue being disbursed to local governments in the state since 2021.

Meanwhile, other local government chairmen in the state prostrated before Governor Abiodun, pleading for pardon for their ‘misguided’ colleague which later, led to his suspension.

According to the statement “In the letter, the Ijebu East Chairman detailed how the State Government has appropriated billons of naira monthly allocations due to Local Administrations in the state.

“In a turn of events, other local government chairmen in the state proceeded to prostrate before Governor Abiodun and pleaded for forgiveness for their ‘misguided’ colleague. Shamefully, the state government leaked the pictures and videos of the prostrating chairmen to the press.

“While people were expecting good counsel and crisis management to prevail, security agents stormed the headquarters of Ijebu East local government in a bid to arrest the erring chairman. Also in a despicable style of politicking the councilors in the local government, mysteriously raised financial allegations against the chairman, suspended him and apparently kickstarting a process of imminent impeachment.

He however called on President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other stakeholders in Ogun to help saving the state from the iron fist of Governor Dapo Abiodun”.

“The President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,Elder Statesmen, political leaders across party lines, ex and current political office holders, community leaders, traditional rulers, local government staff and operatives, artisan, student bodies, NGO and the generality of the people of the state should stand up to be counted as Ogun State descends into a state of anomie.
