OOU, TASUED, FUNAAB missing in latest top 1700 World university ranking

All the universities in Ogun state – federal and state owned – have missed out in 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

None of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Tai Solarin University and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, all domiciled in Ogun state, featured in the 1,799 list of institutions.

Both the UI and UNILAG are ranked 401-500th out of over 1,799 institutions across the world, the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings released on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 reveals.

More so, among Nigerian Institutions which featured, the University of Ibadan is ranked first while the University of Lagos comes second In the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.

Speaking on what he felt was responsible for the disappearance of Ogun state universities in the world comity of educational institutions, Mr Soneye Abdulaziz, a lecturer at the Tai Solarin college of education, mentioned that ” institutions in Ogun state are second generation ones which like its other counterparts in other states marked the decline in quality compared to the first generation universities like University of Ibadan”

The lecturer also said that successive Ogun state government have deduced from the standard of funding entitled to the institutions while reducing them to revenue generating enterprises for the government.
