Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) have kicked against perpetual increment of school fees.

In a statement signed by ‘concerned students’ which was received by our correspondent, the students threatened that the school general exam may not hold on the the condition that the student union steps into the scene.

The students described the series of strange fees imposition and increment as an extortion of students by the school management.

One of the students who spoke to Ogunwatch on the condition of anonymity lamented the spree of fee increment in the Polytechnic: “our school Moshood Abiola polytechnic after increasing our school fee by 7000 last semester, increased admission form fee from 12500 to 17500 and now they have increased acceptance fee from 35,500 to 55,500, additional 20,000”

The statement read in “full”

“Exam May Not Hold If MAPSU Do Not Take Charge

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta has been noticed for couple of months for extorting and wrenching us (its students) away with force and we can’t take it any longer.

Several increment on different fees of the institution has occurred without no tangible reason or cause which has brought about negative consequences and aftercomes on students.

It’s of no doubt that without the students, there would be no institution. Likewise, without the students, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic would not be regarded and worthy to be called a school.

In the first semester of 2021/2022 academic session, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic added a gross sum of amount of N7,000 to the tuition fee of every students after a protest was staged in respect to the ‘Late Clearance Fee’ of N9,000 which was later removed and subsequently added to our tuttion fee.

Recently, the institution also included an UNREASONABLE amount of N20,000 tagged as registration fee and made compulsory for every newly admitted students to pay immediately after a payment of N35,000 as acceptance fee.

What for? For what? For what reason?

It’s on this note that we the students are calling out the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Student Union (MAPSU) to break silence over this inhumane act of the management, and communicate with the students populace in less than 24hrs.

The students are contended if this warrant that the upcoming examination is postponed till a reasonable resolution is attained from the management on the  removal of the N20,000 registration fee.

An injury to one is an injury to all
