In an official statement released on the Lagos State Government’s website on Saturday, October 28, the Lagos State Safety Commission announced the closure of 19 bars and lounges due to their failure to meet basic safety standards.
Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Commission, emphasized the necessity of this action.
He explained that despite multiple warnings and ample opportunities given to these establishments to improve their Safety Management Systems and address identified safety issues, some operators chose not to comply.
Mojola underlined that it has become essential to enforce these safety standards, and as a result, the affected facilities will remain closed until they meet the required safety criteria.
Among the establishments sealed are well-known names such as Indigo Bar, Mantra Lagos, Taboo Lagos, Slice Lagos, Tulip Lounge, Farm City, and Rumours Night Club, among others.
The Director-General expressed the importance of these establishments in the lively nightlife and entertainment culture of Lagos but stressed that the safety of the people is non-negotiable.
He further assured that the Safety Commission will continue to conduct regular inspections to ensure safety standards are maintained across all sectors within the state.
